House appropriations panel recommends $1 billion for Title IV, Part A

By Frank Wolfe, Education Daily® The House Appropriations Committee’s Labor-HHS-Education panel has recommended $1 billion for the Title IV, Part A, Student Support and Academic Enrichment Grants program in an FY 2017 appropriations bill — $700 million more than that recommended in the Senate Appropriations Committee bill, which that committee approved last month.

“These funds can be used flexibly by school districts across the country, whether the need is in the area of counseling, school climate, computer science instruction, or other curricula,” Rep. Tom Cole, the chairman of the House Appropriations Committee’s Labor-HHS-Education panel, said on July 7 during the panel’s mark-up of the bill. More…
